Smartphone manufacturers are developing technology that could revolutionize the charger market. This is a new method that will allow wireless charging of electronics from a distance, which does not require cables or the familiar wireless charging gadgets on which the phone is placed, said Dimitar Ganev, a partner in the Bulgarian software company E-CARD, which is in the top 50 of Europe.
The new technology will be based on positioning in space and energy transmission. For this purpose, they have developed a transmitter that has five-phase interference antennas built-in that help determine exactly where the smartphone is located. The phase control module includes 144 antennas and transmits waves directly to the phone.
The new technology offers 5W remote charging for a device located within a radius of several meters. It is also possible to charge several gadgets at the same time, as long as they all support 5W. Physical obstacles do not interfere with the charging process, Ganev explained. According to him, the system will quickly be able to work not only with smartphones, but also with smart watches, bracelets and other wearable devices.
It is still unclear when this technology will appear in consumer devices, but two major global telephone giants are already working on it, commented Dimitar Ganev. All this is happening at a time when more and more smartphone manufacturers are stopping adding chargers to the packages in which they sell their phones. Aiming at a single standard for chargers globally allows the use of older ones in new devices as well.
The lack of chargers in the boxes of new smartphones is a step forward in meeting the green goals of the technology business. At the same time, consumers can buy chargers from manufacturers, so this is becoming a new source of revenue for them.
